Halloween and its symbolic bright orange gourds were the background for learning punctuation for third grade students at Mandalay. The students have been learning about the four types of sentences (statement, question, exclamation and command) and each type’s corresponding punctuation.
In Stacy Wright’s class, the students divided a construction paper pumpkin into four sections. In each section, the students wrote a type of sentence and made sure to include the correct punctuation. The final products were displayed on the classroom bulletin board so that peers could review ample examples of sentence structure and punctuation. The punctuation pumpkin patch activity also served as a colorful reminder of the impending holiday.
