Accomplished Mandalay Class is Moving Up to Middle School

Gathering at the high school they will attend in three years, Mandalay Elementary School’s fifth grade graduates proudly marched into the auditorium and onto the stage on June 20, where their accomplishment was celebrated by proud loved ones.
After six years together, they will make the leap to middle school in September, where they will join their peers from Forest Lake and Wantagh elementary schools to form the Class of 2032. The 46 Mandalay graduates processed in to “Pomp and Circumstance,” followed by Brianna Menichino, Enzo Mora and Gavin O’Leary leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
Principal Marie Pisicchio reminded parents to savor every moment with their fast-growing children.
“There are 18 summers to truly enjoy children as children, so don’t miss a beat,” she told them. “The days are long but the years are so short. Today, enjoy the graduation and be proud of the remarkable children you have raised.”
In addressing the graduates, Ms. Pisicchio said that they are about to begin a new chapter with countless possibilities. They left their mark at Mandalay as a group that overcame obstacles, embraced challenges and climbed their own personal ladders to success.
The program included several award presentations, including in honor of beloved security guard, Officer Mike. Ms. Pisicchio handed out diplomas as teachers called the names of their students. As its final activity together, they sang “A Million Dreams” before recessing into the middle school cafeteria for refreshments and photos.
