Dear Mandalay Families:

I hope this message finds you safe and well, and you are enjoying the long summer days with your loved ones!  We’ve been quite busy at Mandalay this summer getting the building ready for the First Day of School on Tuesday, September 3rd.

Class Placement

Class placement will be available via Infinite Campus on Thursday, August 22nd at 12:00 p.m., further details to follow.

As stated in my placement correspondence,

“Please understand a request for a particular teacher, however, is not considered.  Additionally, any requests of your child being placed with any friend(s) cannot be honored, as we want to promote creating new friends, unless there are extreme circumstances.

Changes will not be honored after placement is uploaded into Infinite Campus in August.

If you are having trouble with creating or accessing your accounts please contact the technology department.

Supply Drop Off For Kindergartners and Special Classes

Kindergarten, 6:1, and 8:1 students are invited to drop off their school supplies to Mandalay on Thursday, August 29th at 2:00 p.m.  The teachers are excited to meet their new students for a few minutes!  If you cannot attend please do not worry, just send your child with their supplies on the First Day of School.

Supply List

For your reference again, click here to see the supply list from Mandalay’s website.

Nut-Free Classrooms

Please note all classrooms are nut-free, so plan accordingly when packing snacks for your child. Additionally, we will continue the same practice as last year.  All birthday celebrations will not include food items.  Please discuss with your child’s classroom teacher some fun alternative ideas to celebrate their birthday.  During the holidays and end of the year parties, teachers will directly communicate with their class parents if food will be permitted, allowing parents of a child with food allergies or medical concerns the opportunity to plan accordingly.

Lunch Periods

4th and 5th grade 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. (snack in afternoon)

2nd and 3rd grade 12:20 p.m. to 1:10 p.m. (snack in morning)

K and 1st 1:10 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (snack in morning)

Children can pay with cash or an account created on MySchoolBucks.

First Day of School

Bussers

In the event you want to meet your child(ren) who will be taking the bus to school, buses will arrive at Mandalay between 8:50 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.  Please review with your child(ren) their bus number. Teachers will review as well; however, my biggest principal fear during the first few days of school is a child entering the wrong bus going home.  Always explain to your child(ren) to not exit the bus unless there is someone waiting for them.  In this event, bus drivers know to bring back any child to Mandalay so we can contact you.

Walkers

If your child(ren) are “walkers” please arrive by 9:00 a.m. for the first bell.  The bell rings at 9:15 a.m. to start the day.  Kindergartners and first graders will enter the doors directly across the flagpole, whereas second, third, fourth, and fifth graders enter through the main doors.  If your child(ren) are “walkers” for dismissal, all children will be dismissed outside their classroom doors, with the exception of fourth and fifth graders, they will be dismissed at the furthest door on the southside/playground.

Save your hugs, kisses and pictures for outside.  For staff and students’ safety, parents are not invited into the school building.  The first few days of school have a higher volume of parents in the parking lot and in front of the building.  Please stop at the stop sign and park appropriately.  We have many staff members outside to assist children into the building, and help if we have any criers…hopefully we will have more tears from parents than students. 🙂

New Staff

Welcome Ms. Kapustin as a new special education teacher, Ms. Kachadourian as a new kindergarten teacher, and an additional speech therapist Ms. Kannengeiser.

Exciting News
Mrs. Maleganos, Mrs. Romagnuolo, and Mrs. Wright are all expecting the birth of their second children within the next few months!

Enjoy the remainder of the summer!  I’m officially back in the office on Monday, August 19th.

Regards,
Marie Pisicchio
