Mandalay Elementary School

Dear Mandalay Families:

It's hard to believe we are about half way through the school year and I'm mentioning next year already.  However, please thoroughly read my letter regarding placement for the 2024-2025 school year.

Looking ahead, our focus for February is Honesty.  Throughout the next few weeks model honesty with your children as well as encourage them to tell the truth about situations. Remember, it's always better to be honest than to lie and encounter further problems.  As previously mentioned, all three elementary schools will designate the second Tuesday of each month to CharacterDare, which highlights the theme of the month with a short homework assignment for students to complete, fostering a stronger partnership between school and home. The assignment is linked in February's calendar. Teachers will select a few assignments to display in the main lobby on our SEL bulletin board.

March's Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held in person this school year.  However, any parent who prefers a virtual conference can request that option as well.  Within the next week or so, teachers will be sending home a signup form via Parent-Square.  Once again, conferences are available on March 19th and 20th in the afternoon as well as March 19th in the evening.  More information will follow once the window opens, but expect the signup window to open on February 12th and close on March 4th.  Please note, due to Parent-Teacher Conferences, March 19th and 20th are early dismissals at 12:30 p.m.

Looking ahead, the NYS ELA and Math Assessments will be administered in grades 3-5 and NYS Science Assessment will be adminsitered in grade 5.  Please carefully read future correspondences requesting consent if you choose for your child(ren) to not sit for an assessment(s), and adhere to the deadlines.

Lastly, this time of the year brings the joy of Flu, Strep, COVID, RSV, etc.  If your child is not feeling well, please use your judgement on whether or not he/she should attend school.  If your child has a fever or vomits, they must stay home for at least 24 hours.  Let's work together to keep everyone healthy these next two months.

Warmly,
Marie Pisicchio
