Cards of gratitude were crafted by Mandalay Elementary School students for local law enforcement officers during National Police Week, held on May 9-May 15. The activity was sponsored by the Town of Hempstead’s Thank a Law Enforcement Officer program in the spirit of recognizing the contribution of law enforcement officers. 

In Arlene Berman’s and Alexandra Martinek’s classrooms, students were instructed to first determine what they would like to say by reviewing ideas on the SmartBoard. They wrote a message of gratitude and colored a xerox picture of police officers with a police dog, which was placed inside the card and next to the message. Many of the students also created colorful drawings on the outside of the card.
